Mangrove
River, creeks, and an exuberant jungle full
of wild life
This
excursion involves kayaking through the maze of mangrove creeks
and rivers making up the Río Plátano and the Río
Hicaque Lagoon, located in the core zone of the Park. As you penetrate
the mangroves, paddling through the narrow channels, there is an
incredible atmosphere as the greenery closes in around you - and
you realize how close you are to the sights and sounds of the tropics.
Butterflies such as the Blue Morph abound as well as an ample variety

Los
Micos (TELA)
A
wildlife refuge for abundant marine life and over 342 species of
birds
As
a unique specialist tour, this excursion involves a launched tour
by ferry of the country’s second largest lagoon, as well as
an afternoon’s stay at the most typical Garifuna village in
Honduras, Miami – both situated right on the ocean’s
edge. The lagoon derives its name from the white-faced monkeys or
‘micos’ which frequent the mangroves. Laguna Los Micos
is truly an astounding birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 350

indigenous as well as Oceanic and Asian fruit trees in Tropical

Rafting
Rio Cangrejal (LA CEIBA)
Great
adventure for everyone
A
30 minute drive from La Ceiba will take us up-river through an imposing
valley, which reinforces our sense of smallness. From the outset,
intense paddling is interspersed with calm stretches - to rest and
also to do some cliff jumping. Hedged in by the tropical forest
of Pico Bonito, we’ll also hike the Bejuco trail up to a refreshing
waterfall; and afterwards regain our strength with a lunch of tropical
fruit, before tackling the last cluster of rapids. Rafting the grade
3/4 rapids of Rio Cangrejal will leave you with a feeling of accomplishment

Cuero
y Salado (LA CEIBA)
An
incredible wildlife refuge near La Ceiba
This
wildlife refuge situated 33km from La Ceiba, is home to many endangered
animal species, found within the many mangrove canals proceeding
from the rivers Cuero and Salado. There is a mixture both fresh
and salt water, the reserve being right at the ocean’s edge.
From La Union, we catch a ride on the old railway to reach this
wildlife refuge, and then by boat or canoe we explore the mangrove
lagoons. Manatees, monkeys, alligators and a variety of birds are
all part of the highlights of this protected and diverse habitat

Leaving
from La Ceiba at 8:30 am by 4x4, with a 20 minute ride, the adventure
begins: In the tropical forest of Pico Bonito, several trails trek
deep into the lush vegetation - en route discovering butterflies,
birds and many other species of wildlife. Following the Rio Zacate
trail, we’ll have a beautiful view of the Caribbean Coast,
